Do you know Ingrid Bergman’s 1958 movie The Inn of the Sixth Happiness? It’s the story of Gladys Aylward who, despite being considered unacceptable by the organisations of the time, made her own way from England to China as a Christian missionary.
Life was hard but the Lord blessed her work and she had the opportunity to go to every single village in her region to share Bible stories and talk about the Good News of Jesus as Saviour and Lord.
Gladys cared for many orphaned Chinese children and, when the Japanese invaded China in 1938, she led 100 children for weeks over the mountains of China and the Yellow River to take them to safety.
Gladys didn’t fit the old way of doing things but sensitively chose to be God’s hands, feet and voice in her particular time and place. We can choose to do the same.
You possess a unique set of abilities and personality. 1 Peter 4:10 exhorts, “Each of you has received a gift to use to serve others. Be good servants of God’s various gifts of grace”.
I like what Proverbs 3: 5-6 says too “With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgement. Always let Him lead you, and He will clear the road for you to follow”.
